Starkey's match of the round - R4

South conference

I have selected the Kraken vs Blazers game as the match of the round. Last week Kraken got their first win for the season against the Crocs and they were able to do this through their defence and fast transition basketball on the offensive end. Two of the Kraken young guns Cooper Lanting and Jye Horne had strong performances in their win against the Crocs, Cooper finished the game with a double double 12 points and 12 rebounds, Jye had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks and I believe was robbed of a ‘Player of the week nomination.’

The Blazers have started their season off strong being 3 – 0, the Nagel brothers (AKA The Bagel Brothers) are showing the Monday night competition that they are a duo and team to watch out for. They have both had strong starts to their season but they also have other guys on their team chipping in week in and week out and this is the reason why I believe that this is a team to watch on the Monday night competition because they have players that can put up big numbers but they also have players that can help out and get their team a W.

For Kraken to win this game they will need to play hard defence and stop The Bagel Brothers from putting up big numbers. On the offensive end they will need Cooper, Jye and Seth to have decent/big games but they will need to get out and spread the floor and score on transition.

For Blazers to win this game I think they just need to keep doing what their doing as they are yet to have their first loss of the season. For this to continue they will need The Bagel Brothers to continue what they are doing and just dominating games but the most important I believe for them to continue this winning form is the number of players they have chipping in each week and playing their role.

I am tipping an upset and I am tipping the Kraken to win by 1 – 10 points.

East conference

For the Tuesday night competition, I have selected the ‘Penguins vs Bloodhounds’ game as match of the round. Last week the Penguins fought hard against a very talented Unicorns side and was in the game for 3 quarters but ran out of legs in the last, while the Bloodhounds got their first W for the season against an undermanned/ injured Ducks team.

Both teams are now 1 – 2 so this is a big game for both teams to get their season back on track and to stay in touch with the rest of the competition. The Bloodhounds bring in a new player this week after completing a trade before last Tuesday’s win over the ducks, ‘Brady Hermans,’ will be suiting up for his new team this Tuesday against the Penguins. Will this trade hurt the Bloodhounds though? Because the player they traded ‘Summit Thapa’ had a big game and was one of their reasons they got their first win, scoring 18 points.

For the Penguins to win this week they will need to convert a lot better than they have in the past 3 games, they will need to spread the floor, create options for one another and not clog the key with all their big men. Their defence will definitely have to be on this game for them to have any chance of winning, as they can not allow players like Whitfield and Bajger to get out on the fast breaks and score easy buckets.

For the Bloodhounds to win they will need someone to help Bajger on the offensive end as he was their leading scorer last week and they have traded their 2nd highest scorer from last weeks win. Jesse needs to be getting more looks I believe as he has proven to be a sharp shooter from deep, but he is just not getting the amount of looks he deserves. The Bloodhounds defence will need to be on if they are any chance of winning this game as the Penguins have a lot of big bodies to stop and I don’t think Morsman can do it all by himself, but they can definitely hurt you on transition and score easy buckets.

My tip for this one is the Penguins in a close one winning by 1 – 10 points.

For those following along at home, Starkey, after getting both tips in round 2 correct, got both of round 3's games wrong, bringing him back to 3-3 for the season - 50%
