Ben Collins was in pink last season and now purple. The eccentric millionaire loves the bright and vibrant colours when it comes to his uniforms. But this season Collin’s outfit will look a little different, as he has put his hand up to represent the Belgrave Mamba’s. The Mamba’s are a tribute to the late Kobe Bryant and will be a once off franchise this season, as a way for SL to pay our respects.
Although under a new banner, it was the same old Collins when it came to the combine and draft.
Hustling, wheeling and dealing!
{SL MEDIA} Ben what was your focus coming into the draft?
{BC} This season wasn’t about winning it all for me, I really wanted to focus on drafting some mates and ripping blokes that would all gel together and have a bit of fun.
{SL MEDIA} And for the most part, do you feel you achieved that?
{BC} Funnily enough, the team I drafted. I’ve been able to achieve my main goal in having a ripping bunch of guys that will get along very well, but even better looking at the squad. I think we will be very hard to beat. Yes, we have an older group, but we have guys with high basketball IQ’s and are going to be difficult to score against, especially in the paint.
{SL MEDIA} So your confident about this squads chances this season?
{BC} Well as I’ve already said, I think we will be hard to beat but in the end. If we all gel well I think we can be the best team in the comp. Only time will tell.
{SL MEDIA} Your franchise is sporting a new look, tell us a little bit about that.
{BC} Everyone knows how big a fan I have been of Kobe Bryant and when Tristan asked if id like to shelve the Kittens for a season and have a once off team to dedicate to Kobe, I jumped at it. It’s really exciting to have the Belgrave Mambas in for this season and I amm pretty pumped with the design TTW has come up with.
{SL MEDIA} Which franchise has the best list? (aside from your own)
{BC} Bears are favs to win it all in my opinion but as we all know Greg’s Bears usually choke come finals time, so I’d have to say the Matadors are the main worry 😊
{SL MEDIA} Who will win the MVP?
{BC} Jeff Reid – Yes, his old but he is by far the best player in the comp and with Linc running the point for us I think Jeff will have a huge season
{SL MEDIA} Who will win the DPOY
{BC} Liam Blacka – Great defender and even better bloke. The smokey is Linc though, he is a very underrated Defender
{SL MEDIA} Who will win the Steal of the Draft
{BC} Wyatt – I do not understand how he dropped so low. He is a JET
{SL MEDIA} If you could have one player from another team, who could it be?
{BC} Joey Nativo – He is a ripping dude and a good mate, I would love to have Joey teamed up with Linc and Jeff but unfortunately, I couldn’t get him. Two others would with have been the Comish Tristan Blacka & his brother Liam – Both great dudes and would fit our squad great.
